Producing highly polished surface finishes, to an exact standard, was a market requirement that Impcross identified and developed, to support the new series of longer, faster, actuation devices required by Goodrich Actuation Systems for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The Impcross
SUPERFINISH facility was created.
Both Cylinders and Pistons designed by Goodrich Actuation Systems of Wolverhampton are much longer than previously used in civil aircraft, and operate at much higher pressures and speed.
In particular, the Pistons have a specific Bearing Ratio requirement, a calculation of surface finish but with the required surface “undulations” to trap oil and ensure efficient and long-lived operation.
Measurement of the Impcross
SUPERFINISH features are semiautomatic with computer generated calculations and report.
The Impcross
SUPERFINISH process centres around a specially converted long bed centre lathe fitted with special filtration, and utilises a unique electropneumatic Polishing Head. The head oscillates a finely loaded industrial diamond coated belt, that travels up and down the work piece at a predetermined rate and loading.
